Switching to Claude Code

Editorial suggestion · cites a checked fact

Choose it when: You work mostly in the terminal or in CI, and want an agent that reads the repository, edits files and runs commands without an editor window.

What changes: Keep the same repository and run the agent from the shell; Cursor's editor extensions and settings do not carry over, and the two tools can coexist on one codebase.

What you give up: Claude Code's most-used surfaces require a Claude subscription or an Anthropic Console account, so a Cursor subscription does not cover it.

Switching to GitHub Copilot

Editorial suggestion — not a checked fact

Choose it when: Your organisation already pays for GitHub and you want the assistant inside the editor and pull-request flow you already use.

What changes: Install the Copilot extension without replacing your editor. Compare its plan fee and token-priced GitHub AI Credits with Cursor’s current plan and separately billed model usage.

What you give up: Copilot is billed per seat and, on Business and Enterprise, is administered by the GitHub organisation.
